Precision Ball Splines

Construction

The periphery of the spline incorporates circular arc grooves the shape of which corresponds to the diameter of the ball. When the spline shaft transmits a torque to the bearing, the balls share the load equally at three positions, according to the direction of the load.

When the spline moves in a linear direction relative to the bearing, the loaded balls travel along the circular arc grooves to the end of the bearing where they are picked up by a return cap and retainer, then returned to the groove on the opposite side of the bearing.

Features
Zero Angular Backlash
The spline maintains precise axial positioning accuracy even under preloaded conditions.

High Speed Linear and Rotary Motion
All grooves are precision ground to circular shape with high straightness in axial direction. This guarantees smooth and stable ball rotation with very low frictional resistance. Grease lubricant stabilizes spline rotation even at high linear speeds.

Compact Design and Easy Installation
The compact outer diameter of the bearing is due to the design which permits the return ball track to be at the same diameter as the loaded ball track. TSUBAKI SPG Ball Splines are designed to support axial and radical loads simultaneously along a single axis. A retainer prevents balls from falling out when the bearing is removed from the spline shaft. This feature simplifies reassembly and maintenance.

High Load Capacity
The circular arc groove correspond exactly to the radius of the balls and as balls are angular contacted with the track surface at 45° contact angle against normal direction of spline center, it ensures high load carrying capacity.

Power Saving
Due to low friction resistance, a large energy saving effect is obtained especially in applications involving frequent starts and stops.

Features
In terms of bearing length and load capacity, SPG is categorized into two types: A type (short) and B type (long). These are both available with three types of mountings.
  • SPG: Cylindrical type
SPGF: Cylindrical type with end flange
SPGM: Cylindrical type with middle flange
